Our Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Belief

Dedicated to diversity, equality and inclusivity, the BATTERIES Team is formed by students, faculty, staff, and researchers from California State University, Chico (CSU, Chico), San Jose State University (SJSU), and Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL). CSU, Chico and SJSU are minority serving institutions (MSIs). Diversity is further reflected in our team leadership, staff, and students. For instance, 75% of our principal investigators are women, and 2/3 of the women PIs are minorities. As of Fall 2022, the student population is composed of 35% underrepresented minorities, 39% first generation college students, and 52% women at both MSIs. We are committed and dedicated to train and mentor as many students and participants regardless of race, ethnicity, or gender in our pursuit for lighter, cheaper, and greener Li-S batteries.

“Life is not easy for any of us. But what of that? We must have perseverance and above all confidence in ourselves. We must believe that we are gifted for something, and that this thing must be attained.”

Our Project

We are researching lithium sulfur batteries and how to make them more producible in an effort to create a greener world. We mainly research three aspects of this battery

  1. The molecular dynamics between the cathode and anode and polysulfide adsorption
  2. Optimization of a MOF interlayer for lithium-sulfur batteries
  3. Analyzing the effect of a MOF interlayer within a lithium-sulfur battery
